Would I benefit from a hearing aid?

I have very minimal hearing in my left ear. I have had problems with my hearing since I was very small. I tried grommits several times but was unsuccessful. A few years ago I had a left tympanoplasty due to a perforated ear drum. I was told the operation would improve my hearing but unfortunately it hasn't. I'm 25 now and was wondering if I would benefit from a hearing aid?

Answer:

Perforated eardrums are fairly common and whilst, in many cases, a tympanoplasty operation can significantly help improve hearing, there are occasions when not so successful. As long as your affected ear is mostly dry and infection free, there is no particular barrier to the use of a hearing aid. I would suggest that you make an appointment with your local audiologist to discuss your hearing requirements.
